The Daily Buckeye Blitz: Instant Reaction To The Buckeye Victory at Maryland

What’s up? Welcome Into your Daily Buckeye Blitz for a Sunday fun day Sunday freaking fun day. I know it’s Michigan week. I already started prepping. Oh boy that was a little too close for comfort last night yesterday whatever against Maryland. Really frustrating. But it looked like it was a bad day for everybody. That was highly ranked TCU almost got knocked off. They needed a last second field goal. Michigan needed a last second field goal. Tennessee out of here two losses. Beat it. Georgia did not look great in Bourbon Country either.

So point is we get a dub and here’s my instant reaction. Oh tonight before I forget youtube live 8 P.M. We will get you fired up for Michigan week. And we’ll talk a little recovery from last night. But here we go let’s talk Maryland right now. Buckeyes roll. Oh they opened it up in the third quarter. I really thought they were going to have an explosion in the third quarter. And it just never came. That’s what she said. Oh I can’t help myself sometimes. It’s too easy. Anyways let’s look at these stats. Pass defense is the glaring issue. If you want to talk about bad news first for my guy PC on youtube. He likes the bad news first. So let’s talk about it.

We allow 300 yards passing. 73 completion percentage Jesus Christ. Oh man what’s Taulia throw for here. He had Taulia at 293 two touchdowns. Did take five sacks. So not not great Bob. So who are they targeting? Well obviously they got two of the best receivers in the Big Ten with Demas and Rakim Jarrett.

Tommy Eichenberg was in in pass coverage way too much. They had six targets on him. He allowed six receptions. Lathan Ransom five targets. Three receptions. McAlister fe’s our fish. He’s the guy that everybody’s going after. Five targets three catches. Denzel four targets three catches. Steele should not be in pass coverage either. Four targets four receptions.

The corners did well. Jyaire just allowed two catches on two targets. Hancock two catches two targets. Cam Brown had a nice pass breakup. One reception on two Targets. So you can see that they kind of spread it around. There was not one particular. But they like this is typical. I mean I know this is not news to anybody. But obviously they want to get linebackers in pass coverage situations because typically it’s a faster guy that that is matched up against them. So that’s why Eichenberg and Steele are going to be the target a lot. And lathan’s fast but not that fast.

So everybody got assaulted from this this passing game. Tackles let’s talk missed tackles we had eight again. At least we’re staying out of double digits. Which is good not great. Denzel Burke with two misses. Steele Chambers he’s always at the top of the list with two. Hancock with one. And one a few other guys with one. So we’ve got to get this these tackles shored up. You cannot do this against Michigan next week.

So let’s talk Buckeye offense. Oh what’s CJ go for here? 241 And a touchdown not great on the Heisman campaign Bob. Need we need a much much cleaner game. This should have been so much cleaner in all phases. Running passing everything.

Dallan Hayden you know the bright spot goes for three touchdowns 146 yards on the ground. Took care of the ball which is key. That’s the number one priority according to Coach Day. CJ had a couple carries. TreVeyon still not a hundred percent obviously.

I don’t know why you played him. Why’d you bother? Was Chip Trayanum not ready? I Don’t know. 11 carries for 19 yards treveyon. Did have a fumble but didn’t lose it. Not good enough.

Emeka led a team with six catches on six targets 82 yards. TreVeyon had the one big reception. That was that was a great play. You see what he can do when he’s out in space. But his problem is he does when he runs. He does not take what’s there. He’s too quick him and Miyan both are too quick to bounce it outside. Take the the hole that’s there. Take the five seven eight whatever. That’s what Dallan Hayden was so successful at. He takes what’s there and he’s not looking to bounce it outside. Where he ends up you know not getting the first down. Hayden had a nice you know five almost five and a half yards per carry average. What more can you ask for from a running back honestly?

Anyways getting back to the receivers. Julian Fleming not a great day. Two catches two targets. He’s not doing it for me anymore. Yeah a couple breakout games. But I haven’t seen much from him. I’ve seen a lot of drops. I know that Marvin Harrison five catches eight targets 68 yards. Cade over two catches on two targets. And Hayden had two catches out of the backfield on two targets. So let’s look at I have 11 targets for Marv and five catches. That’s not a great percentage. They can’t all be bad passes.

Anyways so Buckeyes put up 400 yards of their own on offense. Didn’t really seem like it did. It it was it was pretty clunky. Terrible completion percentage 60 percent as a team. Rushed for 160.

Third down efficiency was shitty. 53 again I touched on this couple days ago on The Daily Buckeye Blitz. Our our third down percentage has gradually decreased since we started conference play. Fourth down 0 for one that one. Was late in the fourth if you remember they try to pass to Marvin Harrison to get on a fourth. And one did not get it. Extremely frustrating and penalties. Both teams are very sloppy on the penalty category. Buckeyes beat them with 11 to 10. So good job there not.

Steele coming up you know late in the game to get that extra that tack on touchdown. Makes the score look a little better. But the blocked extra point. These are little things that cannot happen. These things can’t creep up for a game next week where the talent and everything is virtually equal. It’s a different kind of team. I know they don’t throw it around like we do. But there’s they have quality o-line d-line and it’s going to be a tough one.

So like I said hit us up in the comments find me on Twitter Instagram Facebook and check us out tonight eight o’clock youtube live and we will talk to you then. Go Bucks!
