The Daily Buckeye Blitz: Ohio State Football Roster Reset

What is up? Welcome into your daily Buckeye Blitz for a Sunday. The old Sunday fun day, January 22nd, 2023. All those 20s in there kind of sneak up on you. It’s easy to say 2022 still, but not me. Beat your ass, 2023.

Anyway, oh boy. Hope you guys are having a good weekend. If it’s Sunday, you know there’s going to be some YouTube live tonight at 8pm Eastern. Be there. Me, Jeff, and Shawn, we’re going to discuss the latest topics of the week. I know we’re going to bang on Harbaugh and the weirdness around the Michigan program right now. Oh, and thank you to all of the Michigan fans who commented on my previous video on The Daily Blitz. You guys are helping out the algorithm something nicely. I really appreciate it. Thank you and keep them coming. Keep the comments coming. YouTube loves all the comments, so just gets me ranked higher. And even I don’t care what you say, you can be positive, negative, most of your kind of, but anyways, keep the comments coming on all videos. Not just the Michigan one, but today our topic, roster updates.

Let’s talk about the Buckeye roster, the changes, who’s coming, who’s going, who’s returning, all that. I feel like we need a reset button right now since the portals closed, the NFL deadlines ended, and the roster should be somewhat set till after Spring ball at least. All right, so here’s where we’re at.

Oh, by the way, spring game is April 15th. I’ve seen price, I heard prices for tickets were like seven bucks, so I would recommend going. If I’m able to get up there in April, I will definitely go. You can get nice and close to the field, and plus you’d see the band and the whole thing.

So let’s start off with transfer portal departures. These are guys that enter the portal that still have eligibility. Let’s start off with safety Jalen Johnson. He’s headed to Memphis. Linebacker Taraja Mitchell, he’s headed to Florida, gonna join Jack Miller down there. Safety Jansen Dunn headed to Kentucky. Long snapper Mason Arnold headed to Michigan State, so we’ll see you again my friend. Another guy we’re going to see this year in the regular season, defensive end Javonte John Baptiste headed to Notre Dame. Wow, interesting. And the last guy is corner JK Johnson. He’s headed down to LSU. I believe this High School coach is a coach there, an analyst at LSU, so makes the transition easier for him.

Okay, so who have we taken out of the portal? Long snapper John Furlman from Arizona State, kicker Casey Magyar. Maggiar, I don’t know. Magyar Meyer, I don’t know. Kent from Kent State anyways. Safety Jihad Carter from Syracuse. Quarterback Tristan Gebbia from Oregon State, and Theo Lyman Victor Cutler, I like to call him Vic, Vic Cut.

Vic Cutler, stay back, way back, lay back in the cut from Louisiana Monroe. So that’s who we brought in from the portal. Now let’s talk about guys that have declared for the NFL. It’s really not that many that were on the fence that still had eligibility and are departing: safety Ronnie Hickman, wide receiver Jackson Smith and Jigba, center Luke Whippler, tackle Paris Johnson Jr., tackle Dwan Jones, and of course, quarterback CJ Stroud.

Now, who has announced their return to Columbus? Linebacker Tommy Eichenberg, linebacker Steel Chambers, running back Mayan Williams, tight end Cade Stover, guard Matthew Jones, safety Lathan Ransom, wide receiver/running back/kick returner/Gunner/whatever-he’s-he’s-the-new-slash, Xavier Johnson, is returning, and safety Josh Proctor just announced the other day that he’s coming back. Even though he participated in senior day and did senior tackle, the senior walk, all that stuff, he’s coming back. Probably needs it to get his NFL draft stock, get some good tape out there. Yeah, probably not giving up big plays against Notre Dame would help.

So, that’s kind of the roster reset. Don’t forget YouTube Live tonight, 8 o’clock Eastern, and if you’re listening on the podcast, check out the Subscription Service. You get early access to every episode. You get it a day before everybody else and no commercials ever. $3.99 a month, check it out.

Monday always is recruiting on The Daily Blitz, so see you there. We’re going to talk about some visitors from this weekend and some other offers that went out. All right, talk to you later, go Bucks.
